What is Alliteration?
Repetition of the same starting sound in several words (following each other)
Effect: creates rhythm and musicality; draws attention to specific phrases; sometimes humorous.
What is Antithesis?
The direct contrast of two opposing ideas
Effect: Emphasizes differences or conflicts; shows that something is more complex than it seems.
What is Climax in literature?
A series of phrases or sentences arranged in ascending order until they reach the climax (Höhepunkt)
Effect: Creates tension.
What is Describing?
Descriptive language that helps the reader sense the picture (appeal to senses)

What are Euphemisms?
Nice or mild words used to describe something awful/unpleasant
Effect: Something seems less worse; more harmless; characters using euphemisms tend to be upper class etc.

A hint or clue about what will happen later in the story
Effect: Creates tension.

Emphasis on an extreme idea/thing happening
Effect: Introduces contrast between expectations and reality; humorous.

The opposite of what is expected in a humorous way

A direct comparison between two usually unrelated things without using like or as
