English A Oral Presentation SBA Flashcards
(12 cards)
Stanza 1
Oh gosh! said my mother
Every day and every night
On the streets or in a club
There are always shots and fights
People try to stay calm and have some fun
Where are these illegal guns coming from?
Stanza 2
Oh gosh!
Every day and every night people are dying!
Is it gunshots or fireworks?
Men, women, children and pets are crying
From a stranger, your uncle or your friend
They might have some arms to lend
Stanza 3
Are they from Haiti or from USA?
Why would one risk it?
In America guns
Are manufactured like biscuits
On the ocean or across the border how could anyone miss it?
Trying to stay calm and have some fun
Where are these illegal guns coming from
Stanza 4
Every day there are burials and cremations
When will the culprits emerge?
So much grief across our nation
They are turning our anthem into a dirge
They try their best to avoid the search
They would even have them hidden in a church
Stanza 5
How are they even entering our land?
These military-grade guns not owned by camo
Crime scenes with endless spent shells
Endless dollars spent on shells and ammo
Trying to stay calm and have fun
Where are these illegal guns coming from?
Stanza 6
They are seeping through the porous borders
Customs officers have vision like bats
Legal packages packed with illegal revolvers
Hundreds of guns found in barrels of snacks
Fishermen’s nets void of shark at first light,
But filled with tauruses and m16s at night
The problem is life no longer has worth
So many shallow graves, not even 6 feet of dirt
Stanza 7
Transnational issues, now our national crisis
The police service pleads “Report Illegal Firearms!”
While mothers plea “Arrest who shot my son”
He was a good, good boy who did no harm!
Not even in your shower can you feel safe
Stray bullets miss their targets and hit you in your face
Stanza 8
Our streets are now rivers of blood
Guns heralding death on the blocks
Shots fired at funerals for criminal soldiers
On social media, kids posing with glocks
Every year the statistics show things have gotten worse
The cost of managing illegal guns drains the treasury’s purse
Stanza 9
Fiery tears of those left behind
Streets filled with echoes of voiceless victims
Just weeping and mourning all the time
No Justice for her, no justice for him
Some live paralysed, some nursing their sutures
Illegal guns are stealing innocence and futures.
Stanza 10
Oh Gosh! Shout the people
Always feeling triggered
By the number of illegal berettas,
A few years ago, who would have figured
Silent whispers against this type of crime
Fall on deaf ears, every, single time
Stanza 11
Vigils and picketing make no difference
Every government dropping the ball
While criminals have their weapon of preference
With no regard for life at all
Illegal guns are now so easy to come by
Like doubles and roti and aloo pies
Stanza 12
Oh Gosh! Sighed my mother
Should I even send you to school?
When a gangster’s child
Decides to play the fool,
You never know when it will be someone’s turn
To die by the gun they did not have to earn,
They are not soldiers, or police or trained personnel
These illegal firearms are making life a living hell
Oh Gosh! Oh Gosh!
