What is a Metaphor?
A comparison between two things without using “like” or “as.” Example: “Time is a thief.”
What is a Simile?
A comparison between two things using “like” or “as.” Example: “Her smile was as bright as the sun.”
What is Alliteration?
The repetition of the same consonant sound at the beginning of words in a sentence or phrase. Example: “Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.”
What is Onomatopoeia?
Words that imitate the sound they represent. Example: “Buzz,” “crash,” “whisper.”
What is Hyperbole?
An exaggerated statement not meant to be taken literally. Example: “I’ve told you a million times.”

When the opposite of what is expected happens. Example: A fire station burns down.

A mild or less direct way of expressing something harsh or unpleasant. Example: “Passed away” instead of “died.”
