Personification
Give an inanimate object a human feeling or characteristics
Eg - The tree danced happily in the breeze
Alliteration
The occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of closely connected words.
Eg - Sound. Shock. Silence.
Onomatopeia
Onomatopoeia is the process of creating a word that phonetically imitates, resembles, or suggests the sound that it describes.
Eg - the door screeched as the boy left the house
Simile
A sentence or phrase that uses like or is to compare one thing to something else
Eg - My skin was burning like the roast chicken I had last night
Metaphor
To compare something to something else in an indirect way
Eg - Pain is my best friend
Sibilance
Repeating the same sound in a sentence or section of text
Eg - ‘hush’ said the big who was sweeping with his brush
Rhetorical question
Asking a question that is not meant to be answered
Eg - Do you really care?

When two completely opposite things are put close to each other

A noun that shows ideas, concepts or qualities

It is a specific name for a thing
Collective noun
A collection of things taken as a whole
Assonance
Resemblance of sound between syllables of nearby words
Dialect
A particular form of a language which is peculiar to a specific region
