What is an exclamation?
An exclamatory sentence ending with “!” to communicate high emotion.
What is form?
Purpose and features of a text influenced in its structure.
For example, scripts, sonnets, novels
What are figurative language and sound devices?
-metonyms, hyperboles, similes, personifications, assonances, alliterations, consonance, onomatopoeia.
-These devices have a powerful impact as they can work on the readers sense to strengthen the subject matter of the text.
What is a fractured/truncated sentences.
Incomplete sentences used to increase tension or urgency, or reflect the way people speak to each other.
What are gaps and silences?
What is not said; whose voice isn’t heard and whose voice is?
e.g. For example: Miss Smith is the second girl to be reported missing this week. .
What is humour?
satire, exaggeration, irony, puns etc. Used to lighten the mood and tone of a story.
What are icons (language technique)?
A single person, object or image that represents complex ideas and feelings.
What is imagery (language technique)?
-a language technique where writers use descriptive language to create vivid mental pictures for the reader by appealing to their senses
-“The old woman’s hands, wrinkled and cracked, were like the bark of a weathered tree, rough to the touch and gnarled with the passage of time.”
What is an imperative voice?
a grammatical mood used to express commands, instructions, requests, or strong suggestions
