Enthalpy, Redox, Chemical Analysis And Chromatography Flashcards
(10 cards)
What are some things necessary for a titration?
. Rinse the burette with the substance it will contain
. Remove the funnel from the top of the burette before the reaction starts.
. Place a white tile under the beaker to spot the colour change
. Make sure the burette is eye level
What are some things that affect how quickly the substance goes through the thing in chromatography?
. Size of the molecule
. Polarity of the molecule
What is a standard solution?
A solution of accurately known concentration
How do you describe the concentration of reactants and products at equilibrium?
The concentration of reactants and products is contant.
Where to find good oxidising agents from the electrochemical series?
At the bottom, on the left.
Where to find good reducing agents from the electrochemical series?
At the top, on the right.
Why would you have a wet paper towel on the top of a boiling tube for a reaction?
To condense any products or reactants that evaporate.
Why would an acid be added before the titration takes place?
To provide hydrogen ions for the reaction
Why would you use the titre values 3.0 and 3.9 in calculating the average titre?
Only concordant values are included in the average.
What is equilibrium?
When the rates of the forward and reverse reactions are equal and the concentration of reactants and products are constant.
