Refers to aspect of our surroundings that were created or modified by people
E.g buildings and communication
Built environment examples
Indoor air quality, walkability, transport, green space, environmental noise, housing
Environment
Anything external that acts on the body that can be linked to a change in health
Chronic disease from environment
UV exposure = skin cancers
Air pollution/mold = respiratory disease
Geographical location
Homeless, rural and remote areas
Lead to pollution exposure, less access to medicine, limited access to fresh water and less nutrient food
Natural environment
All organisms, elements and landscapes
Extreme weather
Unexpected, unusual, severe, or unseasonal weather
E.g. heat waves, droughts, bushfires, storms, flooding, climate change
Vector Agents
Any organism that transmits disease
E.g. mosquitos, ticks, flies, fleas and lice
Physical activity
Maintains good health - regular, moderate, intense
Reduce risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, colon and breast cancer and depression
Healthy food access
Land use zoning and regulation can be used to influence accessible supermarkets, fresh food outlets, advertising and foot retail environments
Social interaction
Community through enabling day to day interaction with people and nature in safe and accessible environments
