Enzymes Flashcards
(15 cards)
Oxidoreductases
Catalyze oxidation and reduction of two molecules.
Transferases
Catalyze transfer of C, N, or P groups from one molecule to another.
Hydrolases
Catalyze cleaves of bonds by adding water.
Lyases
Catalyze cleavage of carbon containing bonds
Isomerases
Catalyze rearrangement of optical or geometric isomers
Ligases
Uses ATP (or high energy phosphates) to catalyze bond formation.
Synthase
No ATP required enzyme
Synthetase
Requires ATP enzyme
Oxidase
Uses oxygen as an acceptor without incorporating enzyme
Oxygenase
Uses oxygen as an acceptor while incorporating it enzyme.
Irreversible inhibition
Binds to enzyme through covalent bonds that can not be reversed.
Reversible inhibition
Binds to enzyme through non-covalent bonds that can be reversed.
Non competitive inhibition
Inhibitor binds to an allosteric site (not active)
- Increases Vmax
- Does not affect Km
Competitive inhibition
Inhibitor binds to the active site of an enzyme.
- Increase Km
- Does not affect Vmax
Suicide inhibition
Enzyme converts the inhibitor to an active form which destroys protein
