process of applying the principle behind a known law (from the Qur’an or Hadith) to a new issue by drawing an analogy.
-The Qur’an forbids alcohol because it is intoxicating.
Drugs like cocaine are not mentioned in the Qur’an.
Using Qiyas, scholars say drugs are also intoxicants, so they are also forbidden.
