Q

Simple Squamous
- Structure
- Function
- Location

A

Structure:
- single layer of thin, flattened cells
- nuclei are broad and thin
- substances pass through easily
- occurs where diffusion and filtration are
- damages easily

Function:
- Filtrates
- Diffuses
- Osmosis

Location:
- air sacs of lungs
- walls of capillaries
- lining of blood vessels

Q

Simple Cuboidal
- Structure
- Functions
- Location

A

Structure:
- single layer of cubed-shaped cells
- nuclei are centrally located and spherical

Functions:
- secretion
- absorbtion

Location:
- surface of ovaries
- lining of kidney tubules
- lining the ducts of various glands (where secretion occurs)

Q

Simple Columnar
- Structure
- Functions
- Locational

A

Structure:
- longer than wide
- single layer
- nuclei same level basement membrane
- contain microvilli (surface area, more surface area=more adsorption of food)
- goblet cells (make mucus)

Functions:
- protection due to thickness of cell
- secretion of digestive fluids
- asorption of nutrient molecules from digestion

Location:
- lining of uterus
- tubes of digestive tract

Q

Ciliated Pseudostratified Columnar
- Structure
- Functions
- Location

A

Structure:
- appears layered but not
- layered appearance bc nuclei located at 2 or more levels within cells
- contain cilia
- goblet cells are scattered throughout tissue
- mucus is secreted from gob cells, swept along by cilia

Functions:
- protects
- secretion
- movement of mucus and sex cells

Location:
- lining passages of respiratory tract
- lines passages of various tubes of reproductive system

Q

Stratified Squamous
- Structure
- Functions
- Location

A

Structure:
- many layers of cell
- thick tissy
- cellular reproduction in deepest layer, oldest cells furthest outward
- outer layer of skin (epidermis) ages and forms keratin, a protein that becomes hard

Q

Transitional
- Structure
- Functions
- Location

A

Structure:
- undergoes changes in response to increased tensions
- contracted, several layers of cuboidal cells
- stretched, tissues only few cells thick

Functions:
- distensibility and protection

Location:
- inner lining of urinary bladder and passageways of urinary system
