5/ Use sweeping motion

20
Q

BCF precautions? X13!

A

Use 1-2 m away from fire

Never hold BCF at an angle greater then 60°

Use of PBE is recommended

BCF is not a cooling agent

Ensure the nozzle points towards fire

Initial discharge can cause paper or fabric fires to scatter

Initial discharge may cause a flare up

Content of the BCF are toxic & can lead to dizziness, difficulty breathing, as well as eye, nose irritation

After discharge it can take up to 7min for agent to dissipate

Smoke should be cleared & signs of bcf content dissipated b4 removal of PBE or removal of oxygen masks

Leaks maybe difficult to detect

Note: if a BCF was found leaking report to CM & FD immediately and treated as a DG

21
Q

BCF after use?

A

Replace safety pin

22
Q

PBE duration?

A

15min

23
Q

PBE pre flight check?

A

Standard

Check humidity indicator is not pink

Insure PBE is within expiration date checking the front of the PBE for date,

If unable to see expiry date on front of case, add 10 years to manufacturer date

24
Q

6/ Flow of oxygen will be heard, if not discard, get another

7/Widen next seal & put on PBE onto head

8/ Pull down to forehead to engage headband

9/ Ensure neck seal clear & maintained around the neck

10/ Pull PBE skirt down

REMOVEAL:
1/ Remove away from smoke or fire
2/ Brush hands through hair to break down oxygen build up

25
Q

PBE precautions? X7

A

1/ After pulling to activate there may be a short delay b4 flow of oxygen is heard

2/ presence of strong odours inside PBE indicates seal is ineffective

3/ be careful when removing as generator at the back of PBE is hot!

4/ gaurd against feeling of invincible

5/ verbal communication may not be easy

6/ if wearing glasses ajust thro PBE fabric

7/ signs of smoke etc should be clear b4 removal of PBE

3/ lock lav door & monitor

4/ OBL will advise captain how many used and location

5/ after landing, hand to engineer

27
Q

FD oxygen three settings?

A

100% mode: (100% oxygen provided on inhalation, regardless of cabin altitude)

Normal mode: ( at lower altitudes ambient air mixed with added oxygen during inhalation as cabin altitude increases percentage of ambient air is reduced until reaches 100% oxygen)

Emergency mode: ( provides 100% oxygen at a positive pressure regardless of cabin altitude. Gets rid of smoke/fumes & maintains visual protection)

28
Q

What cabin pressure altitude will FD get an alert to fit their oxygen masks?
