Q

What is the formula used to work out kc from the rates of the forward and backward reactions ?

What does this formula mean ?

A

kc=k1/k2

it means the same equilibrium constant can be achieved at different rates

Q

What is the formula for calculating kc from a three component equilibria?

A

[A][B][C]
kc has been flipped around to make it easier to get the units
kc now= k2/k1

Q

What is kc determined by if kc=k1/k2

A

determined by the difference in activation energy between the two sides of the equilibrium as activation energy is what effects the values of k1 and k2. Therefore if there is a difference in activation energy the rate of the forward and backward reactions will occur at a different rate.

Q

Why do different equilibria have different equilibrium constants ?

A

Different equilibria have different equilibrium constants as a result of difference in energy (G) between the sides of the equilibrium, and form at different rates due to differences in Ea

Q

Does a catalyst have any affect on the POE ?

A

no, only affects rate at which the forward and backwards reactions occur as they find an alternate route for the reaction pathways to happen that has a lower activation energy.
