Q

dynamic equilibrium

A

the rate of forward and backward reactions occur at the same rate
- temp is constant
- pressure is constant
- concenetration os sbstances stays the same
- reaction is incomplete

Q

when Qc> K

A

When Qc is greater than K, the system is not at equilibrium. The proportion of products to reactants is greater than it would be at equilibrium. A system in this state would undergo a net backward reaction until the equilibrium constant is reached.
- reactions increase, products decrease k

Q

when Qc<K

A

When Qc is less than K, the system is not at equilibrium. The proportion of products to reactant is less than it would be at equilibrium. A system in this state would undergo net forward reaction until the equilibrium constant is reached.
-reactants decrease, products increase

Q

Qc=K

Q

what does the equilibirum constant tell us

A
  • indication of the extent of a reaction
  • if its between 10^-4 to 10^4, concentration of reactants and products are relatively the same
  • if its greater than 10^4, then products are significaltny bigger than reactans
