Equilibrium Flashcards
(10 cards)
What is a reversible reaction?
A reaction in which reactants can change into products and products can change back into reactants.
What is dynamic equilibrium?
The rates of the forward reaction and reverse reaction are equal and the amounts of reactants and products remain constant.
State Le Chateliers principle:
If a change is made to the conditions of a system at equilibrium, then the position of equilibrium moves to oppose that change in conditions.
What will and increase in temperature do to the position of equilibrium?
Change it in the direction of the endothermic reaction.
What will a decrease in temperature do to the position of equilibrium?
Change it in the direction of the exothermic reaction.
What does an increase in pressure do to the position of equilibrium?
Moves the position of equilibrium in the direction of fewer gas moles.
What does a decrease in pressure do to the position of equilibrium?
Moves the equilibrium in the direction of greater gas moles.
What does and increase in concentration do to the position of equilibrium?
Moves the position of equilibrium in the direction of the forward reaction.
If position of equilibrium moves to the right,
Yield increases
If position of equilibrium moves to the left,
Yield decreases
