equilibrium constant Flashcards
(8 cards)
what is the total pressure?
the sum of all the pressures of the individual gases
what is the equation for mole fraction of a gas?
number of moles of gas /total number of moles of gas in mixture
what is the equation for partial pressure
mole fraction x total pressure = partial pressure
what is the formula for Kp?
(PD)^d(PC)^c
(PA)^a(PB)^b
describe how temperature affects kP?
kp is only valid for a specific temperature.A change in temperature will change equilibrium pressure hence kp will change
If temperature change causes kp equilibrium to shift right then kp will increase
If temperature change causes kp equilibrium to shift left then kp will decrease
this is due to the fraction more product means a bigger numerator
Increase in temp favours endothermic reaction (kp decrease)
decrease in temp favours exothermic reaction (kp increase)
what is the formula for enthalpy of formation?
reactants-products
A data book value for the H–H bond enthalpy is 436 kJ mol−1
.
Suggest one reason why this value is different from your answer to part (a).
mean bond ethanlpy is not equal to the actual bond enthalpy
Suggest why the catalyst used in this process may become less efficient if the
carbon dioxide and hydrogen contain impurities
Impuritites block active sites
