Define ‘Hydraulic Action’

A

Hydraulic Action is where air becomes trapped in joint and cracks on a cliff face. When a wave breaks, the trapped air is then compressed and weakens the cliff face.

What happens at Abrasion?

A

Abrasion is where bits of rock and sand in waves grind down the cliff surface like sandpaper.

A

Solution is where acids contained in sea water will dissolve types of rock such as chalk or limestone.

A

This is where rock fragments carried by the sea knock against one another, causing them to become smaller and more rounded
