Q

How is a hanging valley formed?

A

These are created where in times of glaciation a tributary glacier would have met a main glacier
The main glacier has more mass therefore will pick up more rocks from plucking for abrasion and the valley is eroded more
The tributary glacier has less mass therefore less erosive power
Post glaciation the tributary valley is left hanging above the main glacier

Q

How is a glacial trough formed?

A

When a glacier moves through a V shape valley it plucks rock from the sides and base and uses them in abrasion. This process widens and deepens the valley to a U shape
