What is Eschatology?
The christian study of what will happen at the end of time
What will happen at The Final Judgement
The earth would be destroyed, all people would be judged to go to heaven or hell
What is particular judgement?
What is Final Judgement?
Particular judgement: immediately after death; based on their actions results in heaven, hell or purgatory
Final judgement: at the end of time when Christ comes again. The kingdom of God will be established
“We know not the day nor the hour… we must be constantly vigilant’(Lumen Gentium 48) meaning
God doesnt send people to hell, their actions do. People should be constantly preparing for the end of time

Follow Jesus’ teachings
Keep faith in God
Perform good actions
Do not commit serious sins(mortal sins)
If you do commit a serious sin, confess and be truly sorry
Signs of the end of time
Cosmic disasters- sun darkening or stars falling from heaven
Jesus will return to earth to judge all humans
The kingdom of God will be established

“It was necessary that there should be sin” God gave us free will
“all manner of thing shall be well” Sin will be defeated - all will be made perfect at the end of time
When is the easter vigil?
During darkness between Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday
What do features of the paschal candle represent? Alpha & Omega, light, 5 grains of incense
Alpha & Omega- shows that Christ is eternal
Light - light of Christ rising from the tomb, light of Christ overcomes sin and death
When is the Paschal candle lit other than at the easter vigil?
Baptism - shows the person is filled with the light of christ
Funerals - shows the deceased has joined Christ in ressurection

What Christians believe in purgatory
ONLY Catholics believe in purgatory - most Christians do not. They onlt believe in heaven and hell
What are the last rites?
Collective term for
1. Sacrament of the anointing of the sick
2. Commendation of the dying
What is euthanasia?
Helping someone to die, in order to end their suffering - also called assisted suicide
