Marriage in Christianity?
- something God intended
- get married of their own free will
- monagomy is the right way to live
- best setting for having children
- help and support each other
- enjoy sexual closeness
- raise children
Why cannot a church marry homosexual couples?
Law does not recognise the term ‘married’ as applying to such a relationship
However, can form a ‘civil partnership’
Catholics on marriage?
- marriage ceremony is a sacrament
- cannot be dissolved
- become ‘one Flesh’ and cannot be seperated
- couples who have sex without a catholic wedding ceremony- committing adultery
- homesexuality is a ‘call to celibacy’
Protestants on marriage?
- marriage is not a sacrament
- most churches allow homosexual relationships
What is a literalist view?
Meaning that the bible are instructions are directly from God and cannot be open to disscussion
Liberal view?
- christianity developed without a culture that placed men above women and this cultural idea was reflected in the writing in the bible
- beleievd that bible was not written by God but humans who were inspired
