What is informed consent?

A

Participants should know about the whole experiment and then be able to give a judgement as to whether they want to continue.

What is deception?

A

Deliberately misleading or withholding information during the investigation. However it can be justified in order to help the experiment and if it doesn’t harm participants.

A

Participants should not be placed at any more risk than they are in their daily lives, which includes embarrassment or excessive stress.

A

Participants should be issued with a letter of consent and for children under 16, parental consent is needed.

Participants should be given a full debrief and told any information they weren’t told in the brief. Participants should be told they have the right to withdraw or withhold data and if put under extreme pressure, they should be offered counselling.
