Black families are less resistant to racism so dont do as well, they internalise the discrimination - may be a result of their past with slavery

Cultural deprevation is a form of victim blaming. Ethnic minority children aren’t culturally deprived but instead culturally different. They under achieve because schools are ethnocentric - focus on one ethnicity often white.
What is institutional racism?
Racism inside an institution - not typical 1on1.
What is cultural capital?
Norms and values that help you succeed in a society - usually middle class men
What are restricted and elaborated speech codes?
Restricted speech codes are when a person has limited vocab, use a lot of slang and typically use broken English.
Elaborated speech codes are when a person has a more sophisticated speech code, proper English and fancy words.
What is material deprevation?
Having a lack of essentials like food and housing.
Why do white pupils have less motivation?
Less parental support.
What are internal and external factors?
Internal factors - factors inside a school that affects a child’s education - eg labelling, institutional racism etc.
external factors - factors outside a school that affects a child’s education - eg material deprivation, parental support etc.
