What is material deprivation?
Lack of money and resources needed for educational success

How do languages affect achievement?
EAL: English as an additional language.
- teachers assume that they have a poor grasp of English and left them out of class discussions.
- used simplistic language around them.
How do differences in IQ affect educational achievement?
- IQ tests showed that African Carribian’s scored 16 points lower than whites .
- blacks underperform because of the discrimination that exists for them.
