30m Majority and dominant in Myanmar. Some in Thailand. Burmese=Nationality Burman=Ethnicity
Malays
Mostly in Malaysia, with minority populations in Singapore, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand. Majority/dominant in Brunei. Have a reputation for being fairly Islamic
Tajiks
8m in Afg, 6m in Tajikistan, 6-11m in Uzbekistan. Also called Farsis and Sarts. “Tajik” was once a slur.

There are many subgroups, but they can be boiled down to:
Tagalog on Luzon
Visayan languages on Visayan islands and northern Mindanao
Moro/Bangasmoro on Mindanao. The Moro have a long history of rebellion, communist, nationalist, and now Islamist.
Ilocano on north Luzon, Catholic, Spanish influence
Amhara
30m in Ethiopia, based in the NW
Akan
Majority ethnicity in Ivory Coast and Ghana. Mixed Christian-Muslim-tribal religion
Azerbaijanis/Azeris
30m, only 9m in Azerbaijan! 15m in Iran, 1m in Russia, 1.5m in Turkey. Almost none in Armenia!

Ethnicities of Sri Lanka
Tamils in North and East. “Tamil Eelam” is the name of their desired state. Primarily Hindu. India has a weird relationship with Sri Lanka, but is overall anti-LTTE.
Sinhalese in south Sri Lanka speak Sinhala and are Theravada Buddhists.
Zhuang
China’s largest minority (18m). In Southern China, west of Guangdong. Some connections to Vietnam
Khmer
Vast majority in Cambodia. A monority in Vietnam and Thailand. Khmer Buddhists.
Somalis
Distinct language, Shafi’i Sunnis. Mostly as the dominant majority in Somalia, some in Ethiopia (Ogaden). Majority and dominant in Djibouti.
Ijaw
Christian, Niger Delta. Smaller than Igbo. Jonathan’s tribe.
Shona
Majority and dominant in Zimbabwe, Christian. Minority in western Mozambique.
DRC ethnicities
The DRC is very ethnically diverse. The biggest tribes are
Luba- Central DRC. Kabilas are Luba
Mongo-South of main river bend, north of smaller bends
Kongo- Former Kingdom of Kongo
