Q

What do prokaryotic cells have?

A
Little internal structure
- lack a clearly defined structure to house their DNA
- plasma membrane
- no nucleus
- lack all other organelles (besides cells walls and ribosomes
- smaller in size
- contains one circular strand of DNA

Q

What do eukaryotic cells have?

A
  • plasma membrane
  • more complex structure
  • nucleus with a clearly defined membane called a nuclear envelope
  • DNA is located in the nucleus
  • larger in size

Q

Difference between animal and plant cells

A
Plant cell:
- cells wall
Larger in size
- Rectangular (fixed shape)
- One, large central vacuole taking up 90% of cell
- plant cells have chloroplasts because they make their own food
- lysosomes are usually not evident
- very rare to have cilia
ANIMAL CELLS:
- no cell wall
- round irregular shape
- one or more SMALL vacuoles
Do not have chloroplasts
- have lots of lysosomes
