Battle of Saratoga (September 19, 1777- October 17, 1777)
Located in Saratoga County, NY. The battle is considered a turning point because it showcased that Americans could fend for themselves and convinced the French to join the American side
Winter at Valley Forge (December 19, 1777- June 19, 1778)
Located 18 miles northwest of Philadelphia. A period of hardship for the Continental Army. Soldiers suffered from cold, hunger, & disease
Battle of Yorktown (August- October 19, 1781)
Located in Yorktown, VA. The final major battle of the American Revolution. The British surrendered, leading to American Independence
Treaty of Paris (1783) (September 1781, 1st seen)
Ended the Revolution and recognized American independence (13 states). The Mississippi River is now the Western Border
Battles of Lexington & Concord (April 19, 1775)
First battles of the American Revolution. Known as the “Shot Heard ‘Round the World”.
Articles of Confederation (1777-1781)
The first constitution of the U.S. Congress would become the single branch of the national government, but it would have limited powers to protect the liberties of the people. (Weak central gov.)
