What is a griot?

A

A storyteller from West Africa, most villages in Mali have their own Griot. Griots are guardians of oral histories.

What do griots do?

A

Griots told tales and sang of births, deaths, marriages, battles, hunts and hundreds of other things. They often accompanied their songs on an instrument called the kora.
