16
Q

what can mechanical balance read to

17
Q

what can analytical balance read to

18
Q

what can microanalytical balance read to

A

0.000001 g or 1 ug

19
Q

what is range

A

lowest –> highest

20
Q

what balance has largest range

A

mechanical balance

21
Q

what is tolerance

A

acceptable performance when calibrated

22
Q

what is buoyancy

A

upward force exerted on an object

23
Q

what are the types of error

A

random, gross, systematic

24
Q

what is gross error

A

human error, calculation problems

25
what is systematic error
reproducible, either + or -, possible to detect and correct, why blanks are imp
26
what is random error
not reproducible, always present, + or -, follow a guassian distribution, cant correct
27
what do calibration curves do
measure how an instrument responds to analyte
28
ways to describe method
linearity, specificity, robustness, sensitivity
29
specificity
chromatography, can method distinguish analyte from other things in sample
30
robustness
how resistant is method to small changes, temp or humidity
31
sensitivty
how low can you go,limited by "noise"
32
linearity
r2
33
explain how an analytical balance works
1. analyte is put on pan which moves the pan down and the wire up and trips null sensor 2. when sensor is tripped, the current is sent to magnet through circuit 3. current strengthens magnet 4. wire is pulled down until sensor is no longer tripped 5. amount of current measured through precision register 6. current gets converted to digital by ADC 7. digital signal gets displayed on readout
34
is number is below LOQ what does that mean
too close to noise and cant quantify it
