advantages of stock drugs
always available, cheaper
advantages of unit dose drugs
fewer errors, saves time, correct dose w/o calculation, billed for specific # doses
disadvantages of stock drugs
more errors (poured by many, more drugs to choose from), drug expiration may be missed
disadvantages of unit dose drugs
- time delay to get drug
- if damaged, not readily available
NSAIDs
non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (usu taken for pain relief)
ansiolytics are used for
anxiety disorders, insomnia, nausea and vomiting in cancer therapy
antipsychotics are used for
psychotic disorders particularly schizophrenia
antidepressants are used for
depression-reactive, major and bipolar disorders
mood stabilizers are used for
antidepressant—bipolar disorders
dystonia
a movement disorder in which a person’s muscles contract uncontrollably. (happens with EPS from antipsychotic drugs)
