  2. Italian Renaissance

comparison: both use realism and depth.
contrast: The merode altarpiece is much more in-depth with its background compared to the trinity.

compare and contrast
1. Northern Renaissance 15th century Arnolfini Portrait oil on wood Van Eyck 2. Italian Renaissance 15th century Mona Lisa oil on wood Da Vinci Comparison: both use realism and both are portraits Contrast: the Arnolfini portrait has the full bodies of two people painted, while the Mona Lisa is more of a headshot. Contrast: the Portrait uses deeper, more saturated colors than the Mona Lisa, such as greens, reds, and blues. Contrast: the Portrait has a much more detailed background than the Mona Lisa, featuring a mirror, chandelier, and bed, while the Mona Lisa has a more blended-out background, that somewhat fades out into nothingness.
