Exam 3 Flashcards
(56 cards)
What is the circulatory system responsible for?
Moving blood, bringing oxygen/nutrients to organs, and removing waste like CO2.
What are the main organs of the circulatory system?
Heart (four chambers), blood vessels (veins, arteries, capillaries), and blood.
What does the right atrium do?
Receives deoxygenated blood from the body.
What does the right ventricle do?
Pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs.
What does the left atrium do?
Receives oxygenated blood from the lungs.
What does the left ventricle do?
Pumps oxygenated blood to the body.
What are the four major blood vessels of the heart?
Vena cava, pulmonary artery, aorta, pulmonary vein.
What are the four heart valves?
Aortic, mitral, pulmonary, tricuspid.
What is the function of heart valves?
Ensure blood flows in the right direction and at the right time.
The flow of blood between the heart and the lungs is called?
Pulmonary circulation
Which is NOT a function of the circulatory system?
Break down carbohydrates into glucose
Arteries, veins, and capillaries are types of what?
Blood vessels
Which vessel must withstand high blood pressure?
An artery
How many chambers does the human heart have?
Four
What are the major types of tissue?
Nervous, Muscle, Epithelial, and Connective
What does basal cell carcinoma do in the skin?
Produces new skin cells as old ones die off
What causes basal cell, squamous cell, and melanoma cancer?
UV radiation from sunlight
What two parts form the central nervous system?
Brain and spinal cord
What are the three types of muscle tissue?
Cardiac, smooth, skeletal
Where does gas exchange in the lungs occur?
Alveoli
Main function of the diaphragm?
To help move air in and out of the lungs
Which structure connects the throat to the lungs?
Trachea
What happens in the alveoli?
Oxygen is exchanged for carbon dioxide
Correct order of airflow into the lungs?
Nose → Trachea → Bronchi → Bronchioles → Alveoli
