exam 3 Flashcards
Perfusion refers to the flow of blood through
arteries and capillaries. It also delivers nutrients and oxygen to cells and removes cellular waste.
Cardiac output (CO) =
Stroke volume X Heart rate
Central Perfusion is the
force of blood movement generated by cardiac output.
Consequences of impaired Central Perfusion are
a reduction of oxygenated blood reaching the body tissues, shock, ischemia, cell injury, and cell death
Impaired central perfusion occurs when
cardiac output is inadequate.
Greatest risk for impaired infusion
Middle-aged and older adults, Men and African Americans
Inadequate Central Perfusion: Infants and Children
Poor feeding, Poor weight gain, Failure to thrive, Dusky color
Toddlers and Childrens with inadequate perfusion have
Squatting and fatigue, Developmental delay
lipids, PT, PTT, EKG, INR, stress tests, Chest x-ray, ultrasound, arteriogramare test for
Impaired central perfusion
Primary prevention methods for impaired perfusion
Smoking and nicotine cessation, diet, exercise, weight control
The accepted range of oxygen delivery with a non-rebreather mask is 10 to 15 L/min.
is 10 to 15 L/min.
The amount that can be delivered by nasal cannula is
1 to 6 L/min.
Oxygen delivered at 5 L/min by a simple face mask delivers
adequate oxygen because the range for a face mask is 5 to 10 L/min.
The cardiac and pulmonary systems work together to
deliver oxygen to tissues.
An intact respiratory system is necessary to inspire oxygen and deliver it to the
circulatory system.
