CLASS: opioid (narcotic)- phenylpiperidine
ACTION: analgesic of CNS; inhibits ascending pathways, atters pain perception. inhibits Na+ channels which can cause it to have anesthetic properties
NORMAL ADULT DOSE:
50-150 mg q4h prn (po) 50-100mg q30+90 mins before beginning anesthesia (IM or SQ)

ACTION: lower feelings of pain by interrupting the way nerves signal pain between the brain and body
