  • Crime may be displaced not reduced as crime usually happens where there is low levels of surveillance.
  • Some crimes are hidden from surveillance as they happen behind closed doors, such as domestic violence.

Outline two reasons why deviant subcultures exist (4 marks)

A
  • Labelling - if an issue is labeled as deviant, they will be treated unfairly meeting I believe the only way to success is a subculture.
  • Blocked oppurtunity to achieve mainstream goals due o deprivation - joining a subculture provides the means of achieving through illegitimate ways when legitimate ways are blocked.

Outline three reasons why victims may not report crimes (6 marks)

A
  • Lack of confidence in police e.g. won’t take it seriously.
  • Unaware they are a victim, lack of knowledge e.g. victim may believe missing object was lost rather then stolen.
  • wish to protect perpetrator e.g. family member - victim may not want to get them in trouble with law.
