Some staff are dealing with large graphics or video files. Which type of computer system would be most suitable and why?
The most suitable system would be a desktop computer with a high-resolution visual display unit and top-off-the-range high-speed processor so the correct level of detail could be viewed and the files could be processed in a shorter amount of time.
Staff are issued with a Laptop to take to remote locations and customers own homes. Identify and describe three benefits a Laptop can
provide to the staff in terms of storage and/or communication?
- can connect to the internet while away from an office
- can keep in contact with the office by email or use the laptop to access files stored on the company network or in the ‘cloud’
- some laptops have built-in mobile data slots for connecting to the internet on the move
What factors would Animated World consider when choosing a computer system?
- The cost
- The user availability
- Data security
How can Animated World Books try to stop incidents of cyber bullying?
They should have a section in their ICT policy to try and prevent this
As a range of staff often work on files, describe two ways this can have access to the same files.
- In shared areas on the Animated World Books network – different access levels can be set e.g.. write, edit and/or read
- On a cloud so all of the staff in the team can access documents online – access can be open or restricted
Explain how Animated World will make use of access rights and permissions
All files and folders have access rights and permissions to control who can read, edit and save files. If a file is read-only files cannot be
altered so if the file was changed it would have to be re-saved.
Explain how Animated World can keep data safe and secure.
Data can be kept safe by: -saving work regularly - shutting down the computer properly Data can be kept secure by: -physically protecting the data -encrypting the data
What input devices would staff would create animated cartoons make use of?
- Graphics tablet would be the best input device - Webcam/video camera/camera for moving image input
- Scanner as you could scan in drawings
What type of output device would the staff use to print drawings?
plotter
When employees are working at the office identify one type of wired method which they could use to connect their desktop computer to the
network
- Ethernet using a Network Interface Card
- Firewire
- USB
Each laptop in the office uses a wireless connection. As part of its security, the wireless network requires the use of a security key. Describe
how a security key is used to allow a device to connect to a wireless network
The security key is checked to see if it is on a list if on a list, access is granted
Describe one responsibility that the Health and Safety at Work Act places on employers who provide staff with computer equipment
Employers need to check that the equipment they provide is safe/does not cause harm/injury. If an issue is identified, action
needs to be taken to reduce the risk/equipment needs to be replaced with suitable equipment
State one reason why Animated World Books archives data, what medium they might use and why it would be suitable
-To store old information
Identify one possible problem to Animated World Books that may be caused by archiving data
-Difficult to find files
What is the difference between a backup and an archive?
Backups are copies of data or files that are currently in use. Archives are copies of data or files that are no larger needed for day-today
use.
What is an incremental backup?
Backup systems can create copies of only the data that is new or that has changed since the last time a backup was created, saving media
space and time. Incremental backups can be used to restore the latest data and files quite quickly. A backup restores the data, file or disk
to the state it was in when the backup was made so the most recent work may still be lost.

- how the user intends to use the file
What type of input device could be used to convert sketches into a digital image on the computer?
-Scanner
What type of storage device would be suitable for storage the assets which will be used in the finished cartoons?
- Hard disk (which use magnetic disks) can store huge amounts of data
- Solid State Drives (which use flash memory) are more reliable than Hard disk Drives
- An optical drive e.g.. Blu-ray – Blu-ray disks can store very large amounts of data
How can Animated World Books ensure they do not break the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act when using software to create the assets?
