What you actually see in the image that supports the questions, describe and infer from it

How do they look?
What is going on?
Where are they?
What do any labels or signs imply?
What is provenance in a 4 mark source question?
When is the image drawn/taken?
Can you work out what event it is referring to?
Who drew/wrote the image?
Does this make sense based on the message the image is sending?

What do you know about the event that might explain why someone drew this image?
Paragraph structure for a 4 mark source question?
“Source A clearly shows that …. (whatever the question says)”
“This is because in the cartoon we can see …. This suggests that …. We can also see …. This sends the message that”
“This image was drawn in (year) by an (nationality of author) so it makes sense that they would want to portray (whatever the question says)”
“This is because at time X event was happening so”

What should both paragraphs in an 8 mark question include?
Explain what the problem was and how it increased tension between the East and the West/Cold War tension
What needs to be described in an 8 mark question?
Needs to be some description of what happened in the event mentioned in the question before going on to focus on how that impacted on the tensions
What should be in each paragraph on an 8 mark question?
Chronological order
Paragraph 1: the immediate consequence
Paragraph 2: something that happened and how that increased tension
What is key in an 8 mark question?
Explanation
Why is explanation key in an 8 mark question?
Most time in the paragraph should be spent explaining how and why the event caused tension/whatever the question asks for
How do you get tops marks in an 8 mark question?
Analysis should be made about which of the two causes most tension
Consider the length of the tension
Extent of the tension
Proximity to war
Could you say that while the first worsened relations, the second brought them close to war so tensions peaked most at this point?
