Exothermic And Endothermic Reactions Flashcards

1
Q

Why is how much total energy the reactants have and the total energy the products have important ?

A

When plotting it on a reaction profile
You put the reactants on the left and the products on the right

Q

If a reaction looses energy that it is what ?

A

Energy in the form of heat has been released/ transferred to its surroundings meaning it is exothermic

Q

If we wanted to draw a reaction profile for an Endothermic reaction what would the reactants and products look like

A

The reactants would be on the left but lower than the products over on the right

Q

What is activation energy ?

A

The minimum amount of energy the reactant particles need in order to collide with each other and react

Q

How do you draw a graph for these things ? Visualize it

A

Do a line on the right for the reactants and a line on the left for the products
Draw a curve going up and then a lot down (the small up is the activation energy) or up and then small amount down (the long bit going up until it curves is the activation energy)
