Experiment 7- Vocabulary Flashcards
(15 cards)
Non-polar Bond
A covalent bond in which the bonding electrons are equally shared by two atoms, so there are no partial positive and negative ends
Ionic Compound
A chemical compound composed of cations and anions combined so that the total positive and negative charges are equal
Non-polar Molecule
A molecule that does not possess a net dipole movement
Polar Molecule
A molecule that possesses a net dipole movement
Bronsted-Lowry Base
A substance capable of accepting a proton (H+)
Polar Bond
A covalent bond in which the bonding electrons are more strongly attracted by one of the bonding atoms creating partial positive and negative ends. There is some degree of ionic character in this type of bond
Precipitate
An insoluble solid product that separates from the solution
Solution
A homogenous mixture of two or more substances
Mixture
A combination of two or more substances in which the substances retain their identity
Molecule
A neutral aggregate of two or more atoms held together by covalent bonds
Full Ionic Equation
A reaction equation that shows all soluble strong electrolytes in their ionic forms
Molecular Equation
A reaction equation that shows the complete chemical formulas of all reactants and products
Bronsted-Lowry Acid
A substance capable of donating a proton (H+)
Spectator Ions
Ions that are not involved in the overall reaction
Net Ionic Equation
A reaction equation in which all spectator ions are removed leaving only the ions and molecules directly involved in the reaction
