it is created by collection of facts created from information provided by experts and also known as a database which is designed in a way to allow storage and retrieval requirements of expert system

a set of rules will be used to make deductions and are used by inference engine as a base of reasoning

- use logical process
- can be accessed 24/7
- less skilled workforce is needed
- will not forget to ask a question
- process much more quicker than human interaction
- aid professional in areas knowledge are a little weaker

disadvantage of expert system
A
- doesnt have common sense
- expensive to produce
- aren’t able to automatically adapt to changing environment
- errors in knowledge base/ inference engine will produce errors in results

A
- type of processing that deals with data in transaction & process once all data is collected, the amount of data entered is usually small
- often used in booking systems ‘airplane ticket’
