A

Other countries, have higher fertility rates, 2.21, than women in the UK where the fertility rate is 1.84 in 2011

How does immigration affect the age structure of the population?

A

it affects the structure as its growing, birth rate is higher than death rate, however births to UK born mothers remain low. If it wasn’t for migration the UK population would be shrinking.

  • immigrants more likely to be working age, helps over dependant ratio
  • however, because younger, have more children, increasing ratio
  • finally, longer group of people settled in to country, closer fertility rate comes to national average.
