- Began with Rosa Parks. Sparked an organized movement to act. Montgomery Improvement Association organized it. Led by MLK Jr. 90% of AA community participated, boycotted for 381 days.

Brown vs. Board of Education
- Brown wins, segregation in schools is illegal and wrong. Supreme Court unanimously struck down segregation in schooling as an unconstitutional violation of the 14th Amendment
NAACP
National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Came up with strategy to fight for black rights in the court
KKK
Klu Klux Klan. Made up of white southeners looking to keep blacks 2nd in society. Did many vicious crimes to AAs, such as lynchings.
MIA
Montgomery Improvement Association. Organized the Montgomery Bus Boycott
Black Panthers
political party for AAs to fight police brutality in the ghettos.

9 High School students who integrated High School in Alabama
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Led Montgomery Bus Boycott, March on Washington and Selma. Wanted non-violent resistance, called “Soul Force”.
Malcolm X
African American Muslim minister and civil rights activist. Wanted confrontation from AAs. Preached about Racial Pride, advocated for armed self-defense. Attitudes towards whites changed after trip to Mecca. Assassinated in 1965
