A

Difference in ordering of decrees

o Scottish amyraldism: creation, fall, redemption, election. God predestines the human race to salvation upon condition of faith then God predestines the elect to faith
o British HU: atonement sufficient to all mankind upon condition of faith. God provides faith to the elect

Q

What is Schleiermacher’s views toward universalism?

A

o End goal of perfect God-consciousness and the feeling of absolute dependence as essential and universal characteristics of human nature
o If redemption of any individual is purely due to grace, then it seems arbitrary and discordant to observe that God saves some and not others.
o Bliss of the saved will itself be destroyed if they are conscious that some who they loved are suffering the torments of damnation. did not give doctrinal status to his universalist claims, but he was certainly hopeful and favoured a universalist view
