Extra And Intra Mural Micro Flashcards

1
Q

Extramural microbiology

A

Study of microorganisms associated with outdoor environments. It includes spread of agricultural pathogens, the spread of airborne pathogens associated with waste environment and germ warfare.

Q

Biological Air Filtration BAF

A

BAF is a method of air purification. This uses microbes for the removal of organic contents.
It is the dual phase air purification system that operates by diffusion of air pollutants out of the vapor phase through the gas permeable membrane and into the liquid phase, where the biofilm containing specialized microbial communities is able to degrade them.

Q

Ventilation

A

It is the method most commonly used to prevent the accumulation of airborne particles. This mechanism involves creating a flow of air through areas where airborne contamination occurs. It relies on mixing internal air with external air to reduce the concentration of airborne particles.

Q

Filtration

A

Unidirectional airflow filtration is a relatively simple and yet effective method for control of airborne contamination.

Q

Biocidal Control

A

It represents an added treatment that can be used to eradicate all airborne microorganisms, ensuring that they are no longer viable and capable of causing infection. For example, superheating and UV irradiation.

Q

Biosafety level 2

A

indicates an area where work is performed using agents that are of moderate hazard to humans and the environment Personnel have specialized training in the handling of pathogens. Many procedures are conducted in biological safety level II cabinets.

Q

Biosafety level 4

A

highest level of control. Microorganisms That Have High Potential For Life threatening diseases are handled ✓100% isolated from other areas of a building ✓In general all air into and out of these laboratories is sterilized by filtration and germicidal treatment
