Q

Timbre

A

– quality of sound. Think of it as the many different ways instruments can make sounds, such as bowing a stringed instrument (arco), or plucking it (pizzicato), using a mute on brass instruments, pedals on the piano etc. Anything that changes the main quality of sound is changing the timbre.
