Eye Flashcards
(12 cards)
Cornea
Cause all light to refract into the eye. It is transparent and curved to help bend light.
Iris
Coloured part of eye, muscles (circular and radial) can change size (making pupil bigger/smaller)
Optic Nerve
bundle of sensory neurons that carry impulses to the brain
Lens
Focus light into retina and refracts it.
Can be fat or thing, depending on ciliary muscles and suspensory ligaments.
sclera
outside layer of eye
Choroid
Black and stops internal reflection of light, has all blood vessels which supply eye with blood
Retina
Detects light and has two light sensitive cells, rods and cones
What do the rod and cone cells do?
Rod cells detect black and white and help with night vision.
Cone cells are used for colour.
Iris in bright light
Circular muscles contract
Radial muscles relax
-> makes pupil smaller so not much light can enter
Iris in dim light
Circular muscles relax
Radial muscles contract
-> makes pupil bigger so more light can enter
Lens focusing on close objects
Ciliary muscles contract
Suspensory ligaments relax
-> making the lens fatter
Lens focusing on distant objects
Ciliary muscles relax
Suspensory ligaments contract
->makes lens thinner
