eye anatomy Flashcards
(26 cards)
fibrous tunic
most superficial layer of eye. composed of sclera and cornea.
sclera
whites of the eye. 5/6ths of the eye
cornea
region of connective tissue anterior to sclera. A window.
bulbar conjuctiva
epithelial lining on the cornea
palpebral conjuctiva
epithelial lining on the eye lid. infection= pink eye.
vascular tunic/ uvea
middle layer of eye split into three parts
choroid layer
along fibrous tunic’s 2/3 posterior blood vessels with dark membrane.
ciliary body
1/3 anterior side of the middle layer. 3 regions.
ciliary processes
folded membrane secreting aqueous humor that is in the cornea.
ciliary muscle
contracts and moves to shift lens for focus.
ora serrata retinae
scalloped edge where ciliary body and retina meet.
Iris
colored part. radial fibers that interact to control the amount of light allowed into the pupil
neural tunic(retina)
three layers of photoreceptors-rods and cones, bipolar neurons, and ganglion neurons.
rods
black and white vision in dim lighting. more sensitive than rods.
cones
sharp vision and color
optic disk/blind spot
where the optic nerves meet and exit out the the eye ball to the brain.
macula densa and fovea centralis
highest abundancy in cones. sharpest vision.
lens
flexible clear protein
suspensory ligaments
clear ligaments that hold the lens in place
anterior segment
between lens and inner surface of cornea. filled with aqueous humor.
canal of schleem
tiny holes where aqueous humor drains out at the juction of sclera and cornea.
posterior segment
between cornea and posterior of eyeball. filled with vitreous humor.
palpebrae
eyelid
palpebral fissure
edge that holds eyelashes
