What are clinical features of styes?

A

swollen upper or lower lid
painful and sensitive to touch, swelling pain is more severe and pus-filled lesions are not obvious due to inward growth
over time the selling develops into pus-filled lesion

A

contact or irritant dermatitis

What are unlikely causes of eyelid disorders?

A

Chalazion - meibomian gland is blocked - painless lump, self-limiting
Entropion - inversion of the eyelid - refer
Ectropion - eyelid turns outward - watery eyes leads to dryness of the eyes

A
  1. unresponsive to tx
  2. constantly dry eyes
  3. concurrent conjunctivitis
  4. Meibomian cysts - swelling on the inside of the lids
  5. Stye - swelling that produces pus
  6. Eye pain, photophobia, worsening in vision

What tx options are there for blepharitis?

A

warm compress for 5-10minutes
diluted mixture of baby shampoo (1:10) warm water should be applied to the eyelids using a cotton bud -BD then once a day when symptoms improve

or brolene, golden eyes

topical antibiotics like fusidic eyes drops

A
