Cold War
The political, economic, and social struggle between the Soviet Union/ Allies, and the United States/Allies. Rather than using militate means, the war was waged through propaganda, economic measures, and espionage.
Dissent
The political act of disagreeing.
Eugenics
The belief and practice of improving the genetic quality of human beings. This can take the form of prohibiting reproduction of those who are considered inferior.
Militarism
The belief that a government should promote a strong military presence, and that that military should be used aggressively to defend or promote national interest.
Japanese Militarism
Militarism in Japan between ww1 and ww2.
Subsistence Agriculture
Farming in which farmers grow food for themselves and their families.
Personality Cult
When an individual uses propaganda and mass media to create a heroic and sometimes worshipful image.
Nazism
The beliefs associated with the Nazi party. Heavily based upon militarism.
Authoritarian Government
A form of government with authority vested in an elite group that may or may not rule in the interests of the people.
Stalin
Former General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
Communism
A system in which property is owned by the community. Each member works according to their ability and revives according to their needs.
Leninism
Based upon the ideas of Lenin. Leninism was the Russian application of Marxist Economics and political theory.
Fascism
A right-wing, anti-democratic nationalist movement. Led to a totalitarian system in both Italy and Germany.
Treaty of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles was one of the peace treaties at the end of World War I. It ended the state of war between Germany and the Allied Powers. It was signed on 28 June 1919.
Propaganda
Exaggeration or misinterpretation of information to rally support for a cause.
Benito Mussolini
Fascist Italian dictator of the 1920s.
Bolsheviks
Members of the Russian Social Democratic Workers Party. Led by Lenin, the party took power in 1917.
Five Year Plan
Five year economic plan for communist development.
Nationalism
Pride and passion for ones nation.
Dictatorship
A ruler with total power over a nation, typically one who has obtained power.
Social Darwinism
Social Darwinism is a modern name given to various theories of society which claim to apply biological concepts of natural selection and survival of the fittest to sociology and politics.
Socialist
A belief that resources should be controlled by the public and not by private interests.
Adolf Hitler
Leader of the Nazi Party and German during world war 2.
