A

The failure is America not joining the league as it would have provided an army for the league as it was one of the great powers in the world.

In the 1930s there was a world wide depression. Japan tried to over come this by expanding its empire. In 1932 the Japanese army invaded Manchuria and got rid of the Chinese to set up thief own government. The league sent officials to study the problem it took about a year and Japan was told in February 1933 to leave Manchuria. Japan refused the leave and instead Japan left the league. Many countries had important trading links with Japan so the league couldn’t agree on sanctions or even ban on weapons sales. Britain and France didn’t want war so nothing happened. The Japanese stayed in Manchuria and the league had failed.

How did the league try and stop Italy in Abyssinia in 1935?

A

The league at first proposed a plan where Italy got part of Abyssinia.The league banned weapons sales, and put sanctions on rubber and metal at a later date. It didn’t do anything else so Britain and France secretly agreed to give Abyssinia to Italy.

A

Mussolini wanted Abyssinia to connect the two other East African colonies. It would also give him war and glory. He invaded Abyssinia in 1935.
