Q

Provide the background to this lesson.

A

In the first century, ancient people usually stayed away from the sick since they believed that they became infected by interacting with them. They believed that people became sick as a punishment from God and that they too would be punished if they were to communicate with these peoples. This is obviously not true, but people were shocked when Jesus touched the sick and healed them.

Q

Continuation Part One

A

Some people made the connection that Jesus’ ability to do this must be a sign of His divinity, for only God is able to accomplish such a feat. So, Jesus started to amass a following of believers. However, these people were shocked when Jesus died on the Cross. They questioned the future of Israel, for the person they adamantly believed to be the Messiah had left them.

Q

What does In Persona Christi mean?

A

It’s a Latin phrase that means “in the person of Christ/being in the person of Christ”
Whenever a priest administers a Sacrament, he no longer is himself in the sense that God channels through him the grace and gifts of the Sacraments. The priest is no longer Father this or Father that; he becomes a vessel through which God communicates His love and blessings to us.

Q

Why do periscope titles exist?

A

Books of the Bible had their stories compiled in a long, single format. To make referencing easier, Bible scholars in the 13th century organized the Bible into chapters, verses, and titles, hence why periscope titles exist.

Q

Continuation Two Part One

A

This helped to restore our relationship with God and bypass eternal separation from Him, that is to bypass sin because sin is the necessary cause of eternal separation. When God became human, He became bound by time and eventually died, but His saving work did not die out with Him or else how would future generations receive Salvation?
