  • Cixi tried to introduce new reforms (tax increase)
  • 1905 Anti-American Boycott organised (US introduces anti Chinese immigration laws)
  • Puyi (2 years old) becomes Last Chinese Emperor with Prince Chun as regent
  • Further reforms are introduced after 1908 (tax increase again)
  • Tax revolts across China
  • Qing attempts to nationalise the railways
  • Railway Boom (1895-1911) had local owners wealthy (they became angry due to nationalisation)
  • Government secured Western loan (upset anti-westerners)
  • Sun exiled to Japan continued sponsoring inland uprisings through the Tongmenghui
  • 10/10/1911 Wuchang military uprising
  • Yuan Shikai got provinces back under control and negotiates Puyi’s abdication with his mother
